Education & Early Career
Studied French & English Language (Leeds, 1967)
Completed Postgraduate Certificate in Education (UNCW, 1970), specializing in TESL
Taught English in Benghazi (British Council) and later in Germany, where I also learned German
Teaching Experience in Germany
Spent seven years teaching at a comprehensive school (Gesamtschule, Kamen) and a grammar school (Gymnasium, Bergkamen)
Gained valuable insights into modern teaching methods, which later influenced my work in Britain
Further Studies & University Teaching
Completed Master’s in General & Applied Linguistics (Exeter, 1978)
Taught translation, grammar, phonetics, and literature at the University of Cologne
Secondary Teaching in Britain
Returned in 1980 to teach French & German at secondary level
Achieved distinctions in all papers in the Institute of Linguists’ German exam (1982)
At Millfield School, Somerset, introduced continuous assessment and developed a computer-based pupil progress system
As Head of Modern Languages at Newlands Manor School, Seaford, helped raise exam results from 70% to 100% over six years
Current Work
Retired from secondary education in 2003 and now aged 80.
Now focused on home tuition and 11+ preparation, as required, helping students build confidence and achieve success
